Taking a Break!

We made it into Virginia and decided to stop for the night. We will undoubtedly be in better moods, higher spirits and more rested in the morning. The pups have settled into their new temporary homes for the night too.

We will hopefully get some reports soon about the babies finding their forever homes! Yeah!

Sweet dreams!

Live Free or Die!

Despite being excited to be starting a new chapter, the pups were sad to say good bye to their friends at Shelby Humane. We will miss you Raisin and Dewey! We hope your new families are everything we dreamed of for you!

Send us updates and let us know how you are!

only 3 hours left!

We have just passed the 4 am mark and couldn't be more excited! Desi has recently provided us some more lectures of all the things he will do once he gets his new family for the past, um, hour. He has settled back down and is trying to get a little rest before all the excitement begins!

The two of us are still going strong and are excited for the sun to come up. We will take photos and video of the drop off and post them!!! Happy Friday!

Midnight and counting ...

We have changed drivers again and now Jenny is writing! I would take a nice long nap, but Desi is just talking up a storm about how excited he is! He's going on and on about the new life he plans to have, the kids he plans to slobber all over, and the snow he plans to disguise himself in next winter! He has been telling tales for 30+ miles now ... since our last gas stop. Poor thing, he may just talk himself to sleep!

We are still going strong! Check in on us tomorrow morning to see how we are doing! We should arrive at 7am local time.

Sweet dreams everyone!

Almost Halfway

We are approaching Staunton, Virginia. It is dark now and all the dogs are quiet. It has been a relatively easy trip. Jenny is driving now and I am entering the first blog I have ever done in my life! Jenny is VERY patient with her older, technologically challenged co-driver! We have made two quick stops for gas and potty breaks. We have had a great time talking and getting to know each other. I'm so glad I made this trip. I'm learning a lot from Jenny for when my daughter and I make the trip next month.

Bye-Bye Alabama

The pups were all barks as we crossed the state line into Tennessee. A van full of barks went up as they said their good-byes to the good state of Alabama. I even heard a few sing out in chorus, "Sweet Home Alabama." For some, I bet it's the last time they smell the southern soil. They may have heavy hearts, but they are looking forward to that forever home they've been dreaming of.

We are on hour 4 of this great journey with no surprises thus far! Keep checking in ...

Hitting the Road!

We have hit the road and are on our way to Dover, New Hampshire!

The Garmin has given us an e.t.a of 5:35 am! We are excited and have our coffee in a cooler to keep us going!

Meet Super Volunteer Lisa Williams

My co-driver this week will be long time SHS volunteer, Lisa Williams. If you receive our newsletter, you would have seen her picture and story before ... but for the newbies out there, here is a little bio of our special volunteer Lisa.

Lisa has two furry babies from Shelby Humane Society - Bogey and Mulligan (pictured with Lisa). She also has a son and daughter (and wonderful son-in-law) and a granddog, Lucy!

She has been volunteering with SHS for about 4 years. She takes pictures for the website, walk dogs, love on the kitties and also works at Petsmart on Saturdays. This will be her first trip to New Hampshire on the Shag Mobile, but she already has another trip scheduled with her daughter!

Each Shelter Partners trip I embark on is in memory or in honor of someone special (i.e. Indy Puppy, Lucky Dog ...). I've thought a lot about who this trip should be dedicated to. After a lot of thought, I decided on the perfect someone!

This trip is in honor of my friend, former co-driver and volunteer of SHS, Claire Woodall! This blog last chronicled our trip together to NH and it seems fitting that this trip would be in honor of her ... because this trip will occur on her BIRTHDAY!

Claire Woodall - happy birthday! These pups are grateful for your spirit, love, and hard work you graciously give to them everyday - even from such a distance.
You are a true friend to the pets of SHS!

2 days and Counting!

In two days veteran driver Jenny Miller and newbie Lisa Williams will be hitting the road! They will not be alone. No, there will be 30+ dogs to keep them company as they travel to New Hampshire in the pursuit of one goal - to find these loving pups a forever home! ETA is Friday morning ... just in time to get these pups dressed and in Easter baskets for Sunday morning!
